POSITION TITLE: Internship in multimedia design using Artificial Intelligence/Computational Linguistics/Natural Language Processing in support of Literacy, Interaction, and Language Learning
DUTIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: Interns work on client-side and/or server-side aspects of application development within the collaborative atmosphere of the FunWritr project. Tasks include but are not limited to: interface design, class and method development, cross-platform communication, documentation creation, unit testing, code commenting, report generation, and solution investigation. In most cases interns will work with others to realize and expand application features.
HOURS: Interns contribute 6-12 hours of work per week to the project. This includes attending development team planning meetings, responding to email, as well as whole-group research and development weekly gatherings. Development is expected to span the 2011-2012 academic year.
REQUIREMENTS: Interns should be: familiar with good coding practices, capable of working in groups, diligent about following through on their responsibilities, unafraid to request help or guidance when needed, and available to meet one afternoon per week. Interns should have a working knowledge of or a keen interest in Flash/Flash Builder/AS3, Python/CherryPy, or mySQL database design. EE, CS, and Design majors with a demonstrated interest in education will be given preference.
COMPENSATION: This internship is unpaid. Students will be listed as having contributed to the project and may arrange college credit hour assignment via several different sources in their second consecutive semester of participation and in concert with their academic advisor. Interns have the option of contributing to conference proposals, co-presenting, and journal co-authorship.
