Undergraduate Internship2009/2010

POSITION TITLE: Internship in Artificial Intelligence/Computational Linguistics in Literacy and Language Learning Education

DUTIES/JOB DESCRIPTION:  Interns work on client-side and/or server-side aspects of application development within a collaborative atmosphere on the FunWritr project. Tasks include but are not limited to: interface design, class and method development, cross-platform communication, documentation creation, unit testing, code commenting, report generation, and solution investigation. In most cases interns will work with others to realize and expand application features.

HOURS:  Interns contribute 8-12 hours of work per week to the project. This includes attending development team planning meetings, responding to email, as well as whole-group research and development weekly gatherings. Development is expected to span the 2009-2010 academic year.

REQUIREMENTS:  Interns should be: familiar with good coding practices, capable of working in groups, diligent about following through on their responsibilities, unafraid to request help or guidance when needed, and available to meet Saturday afternoons from 4-6pm on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.  Working knowledge of Flash/Flex/AS3 and/or Python/Django.  Computer Science majors with a demonstrated interest in education given preference.

COMPENSATION:  This internship is unpaid. Students will be listed as having contributed to the project and may arrange college credit hour assignment via several different sources in their second consecutive semester of participation and in concert with their academic advisor.
